LETHAL MEANS SAFETY (LMS) WORKSHOP

Firearms are the most used means in veteran suicide. Lethal means safety, an evidence-based intervention, focuses on how to improve the voluntary secure storage of firearms and other lethal means to help reduce suicidal behavior. Increasing the time and space between when suicidal thoughts occur and accessing lethal means has the potential to be lifesaving.

This workshop is offered at no cost and is designed for peers, friends, family, and clinical providers of veterans to enhance their knowledge about engaging in lethal means safety conversations. This course provides practical tools and tips for facilitating discussions that promote the voluntary secure storage of firearms.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches adults how to recognize unique signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges in youth ages 12-18. YMHFA gives you the tools you need to start the conversation and provide initial support to a young person experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.

This course is ideal for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and anyone who works or interacts with young people.


This class is intended for people and organizations  who live or work in Colling county. Must be 18 years or older.

Crisis Response Planning is a strategy designed to assist an individual who might be at risk for suicide by offering alternative self-selected actions and activities they can use in times of crisis. Peers, friends, family and clinical providers can support the planning process and provide solid options which they can utilize during different phases of a suicidal crisis.

This workshop is designed to enhance individuals’ knowledge about crisis response planning (CRP) for managing acute suicide risk, and to increase their ability to administer this intervention confidently and competently with at-risk individuals.

Training Components

  • A live, virtual 5-hour CRP workshop
  • Access to our online portal, with resources for CRP implementation
  • For Clinicians – 4.5 continuing education credits

Strong Star Care Navigator Training empowers mental health care navigators and support staff to become vital guides within their organizations. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of trauma, PTSD, and the screening tools that help uncover who might need help the most. With this training, you’ll build the skills to identify individuals who could benefit from evidence-based PTSD treatments like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy, and Written Exposure Therapy (WET).

We encourage all mental health agency support staff to register, including case managers, administrative staff, and non-clinical support teams.
